The Hangout Gulf Shores Alabama In the late 1950's and early 1960's The Hangout was the coolest place to meet on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. A place where worries went out the windows!
Gulf Shores Chamber of Commerce The Gulf Shores Tourist Association was formed on the island in April 1966. For many years this organization operated with the focus of promoting tourism to the area. The association operated as a membership organization but also received funds from the City of Gulf Shores and the State of Alabama. The building, which housed the Tourist Association, was one of the first Welcome Centers in the State.

Ono Island Gulf Shores Alabama Coast The island was discovered by the Spanish in the 15th century, who named it Orinoco, meaning "a place to paddle." Development began in the 1970s, now there are more than 700 homes on the island.
